Kombucha is a living health drink made by fermenting tea and sugar with the kombucha culture (the SCOBY – symbiotic culture of bacteria and yeast). The result can taste like something between sparkling apple cider and champagne, depending on what kind of tea you use. It’s not what you’d imagine fermented tea to taste like.
Many health claims are made for kombucha.
There is a lot of experiential evidence from people who have been using kombucha over many years. Many of the benefits reported include improvements in energy levels, metabolic disorders, allergies, cancer, digestive problems, candidiasis, hypertension, HIV, chronic fatigue and arthritis. It ‘s also used externally for skin problems and as a hair wash among other things.
This workshop will provide you with the start up knowledge that you need to make your own Kombucha at home. We will look at the benefits and uses for this magical tea and have a tasting session of various different types and flavours of the drink.
Dena Smiles, who facilitates this workshop, will provide a Starter SCOBY and tea with Jars for every participant along with a handy information sheet to troubleshoot any hiccups you may encounter on your journey to brewing this amazing drink!
