About this event

  • Event lasts 1 hour 15 minutes

Ruth from Edinburgh Fermentarium will be hosting this workshop to teach you how to make seasonal Kombucha recipes for yourself at home.

Kombucha is a naturally effervescent fermented drink made from sweetened tea and a specific culture known as a S.C.O.B.Y.

S.C.O.B.Y. stands for 'symbiotic culture of bacteria and yeast'.

Learn all about the magic of it it in this fun workshop with lots of tastings of Kombucha and other fermented foods and drinks.

The link between healthy bacteria in the digestive system and immune function is becoming clearer as more studies focus on gut health. If the probiotics in kombucha improve gut health, they may also strengthen the immune system

You'll get your own S.C.O.B.Y. in a 1 Litre jar to take home and care for.

What's included in the ticket?

All ingredients and jars are provided. You will get a 1L jar of tea with your own S.C.O.B.Y to ferment Kombucha at home.

"Thank you for a brilliant Kraut workshop on Sunday, it was so interesting and I learned so much. Meeting other people was great too, everyone so friendly and willing to share experiences. You were so organised and clearly had thought it all out so it all flowed really well. I came away feeling able to take this technique forward." Jenni
"Just a little note to say how very much we both enjoyed your Kimchi and Kraut workshop yesterday. You gave us such a good introduction to making these wonderful foods and we shall watch (and burp!) our precious jars carefully over the next couple of weeks before sampling the contents! Thank you VERY much again" Janice and Catriona

Organised by

Hi, I'm Ruth Munro and founded The Edinburgh Fermentarium in 2017. We hand make healthy, artisan fermented food in South Edinburgh in small batches. Our award-winning small, colourful collection both looks and tastes fantastic. Fermenting our vegetables naturally in small batches, we mix traditional techniques with a modern twist to bring delicious and healthy additions to your meals.

I discovered the joy of fermentation initially through a kimchi-making class and believe the art, science and joy of fermentation is a skill that should be democratised and shared with everyone! Since starting the business, I’ve always been inspired by great tastes and have constantly been on a learning journey, collaborating and experimenting to create new recipes and products. Our regular workshops aim to share these tips and tricks with you in a friendly and informal way and our classes are suitable for everyone - from those who have never held a cabbage to cooks or foodies looking to enhance their skill set.
