The unabridged story of how a small style guide that was first introduced under the radar, became so appreciated by both developers and designers that it made its way to become a complex project of unification - a design system called Cosmos.
Atmospheric Design: How Design Systems Thinking Can Change the Way We Design
Marco Suarez
Understand how to think of design systems as more than just visual libraries or reusable components, but as a repeatable, teachable, refine-able program for the entire process of design.
About Marco
Marco Suarez is a product designer who helps shape the design systems philosophy and product at Invision. Prior to this, he held a similar role at Etsy, where he helped create the the company’s design principles, which helped guide a team of more than 50 designers. He was also an Art Director at MailChimp, where he led design on various marketing initiatives and led design of MailChimp’s mobile apps. Marco is also the owner of Methodical Coffee, a specialty coffee shop and roaster. He lives in the small (but not too small) city of Greenville, SC with his wife and two daughters.

Matej Latin, Lead UX/UI Designer at AutoTrader
Better Web Type with the slogan “Better web typography for a better web” started out as a project with a goal to improve web typography—the part of web design that is often neglected. It started out with educating web designers and developers through a free email course that consists of 10 lessons going beyond merely choosing fonts and explains topics such as shaping perfect paragraphs, using the modular scale, combining typefaces and setting vertical rhythm on websites. Increased popularity among designers and developers helped it evolve into an online learning game and a fully-fledged book.
About Matej
Matej is a designer driven by a passionate curiosity and a relentless desire to build things that drove him to a journey from his small hometown in Slovenia, all the way through Germany, Luxembourg and finally to London, where he currently works as a Lead UX/UI Designer at Auto Trader. His journey into the world of design started when he joined an after-school class called “Web Design” at the age of 13. By the time of high school, he was working on freelance projects with local clients, earning an extra buck which he mostly spent on video games, heavy metal music albums and candy. He runs a personal blog at matejlatin.co.uk where he regularly shares his stories and articles based on his professional work—mostly design. His work and articles were featured in places like CSS Tricks, Smashing Magazine, Codrops, Net magazine, Creative Bloq and Web Designer magazine.
