About this Event

We’re incredibly excited to welcome Bae Suah, one of the most highly-acclaimed contemporary South Korean authors, as she discusses her oeuvre to date and reads from her novel North Station.

Drawing upon the seven stories that make up this haunting collection, Bae Suah will explore the recurring themes of her work—from her interest in narrative digression and multiple storylines to the unsettling of societal norms. She will also discuss how German literature has influenced her work as both a novelist and translator.

Bae Suah is an award-winning author and translator who has published more than a dozen short story collections and novels. Her novel Nowhere to be Found was longlisted for the PEN Translation Prize and the Best Translated Book Awards. She has translated the work of major authors within the canon of German language literature such as WG Sebald, Franz Kafka and Jenny Erpenbeck.

The event will be followed by a Q&A and a book signing.

This event is held in partnership with the Korean Culture Centre to celebrate the 2019 Korean Culture Month.
