What is the Kotatsu Japanese Animation Festival?
The Kotatsu Japanese Animation Festival has been bringing the art of Japanese animation to a wider audience since 2010. For the first time, Kotatsu will be taking place at TAPE Community Music and Film in Old Colwyn.
What should I expect?
The festival celebrates an exciting cultural exchange between Japan and Wales. Animated works from Japanese creators will be screened at TAPE in North Wales, while TAPE's animated work will be screened at Tokyo Zokei University in Japan.
Alongside these special screenings, we will also be holding a raffle where you can win amazing prizes from Japan such as Japanese model kits, snacks, anime merchandise, and more!
There will also be a market stand where you can buy Japanese manga (comics), DVDS, Pokemon cards and more with all proceeds going towards the next Kotatsu event.
How do I get to TAPE?
You can get to TAPE on Public Transport.
The closest bus stops are Church Walks and St. Catherine's Church with a 2 minute walk to TAPE.
The closest train station to TAPE is Colwyn Bay with a 31 minute walk. If you are travelling by train, we recommend getting the 15, 12, or 13 bus from the Central Hotel bus stop.
There is limited free parking available at TAPE on Berthes Road, or paid parking in the Victoria Road Car Park.
You can call us on 01492 512109 if you need any help finding TAPE.
What facilities does TAPE have?
TAPE is an accessible venue with accessible bathrooms and baby changing facilities. Free refreshments are available (teas, coffees, etc.).
Is there anything I should know before attending?
Please be aware that some of the animations we will be screening contain films that younger viewers may find disturbing, and parental guidance is advised. We will add content warnings ahead of any relevant films.
Tickets are free but booking is essential.
