Event description

Description

Small Charities Coalition and KPMG join to help find a new trustee for your charity.

We often hear from members that they struggle to find the best trustees with the most relevant skill sets for their requirements. That’s why we're working with KPMG to host a charity trustee and school governor panel discussion, alongside a speed-networking event.

The event provides a great opportunity to help recruit some of the best professional services staff in the county, who have experience across a number of areas including:

Finance
Digital
Governance
HR
Strategy
Organisational management
Change management

The session will start with a short panel discussion on the role of governors and trustees, followed by speed-networking sessions in which attendees will have a series of 15 minute discussions with circulating KPMG staff. More information about how this will work is listed below.

The event is hosted by Dr. Michael Hastings CBE, Lord Hastings of Scarisbrick, Global Head of Citizenship and is open to all members who are registered with the Charity Commission. Please note that priority will be given to those that align with KPMG’s corporate responsibility focus areas of education, skills and social mobility and attendance is subject to independence checks.

How It Works

We will circulate details of all charity attendees and KPMG staff prior to the event, to enable everyone to make the most of the event. These lists will be included in the Match Cards distrubuted to everyone.

Each charity attendee will be given a table and a 1 ½ ft board to display promotional material, and you are also welcome to bring roller banners and anything else that would help to showcase your charity.

Please arrive from 3pm to set up, for a 4pm start. This will ensure the event starts on time, and will also provide time for you to meet your fellow small charity attendees.

Following a panel discussion the KPMG personnel will start circulating round the room, aiming to meet as many organisations as possible. If you are interested in speaking further with any of the potential trustees please place a tick next to their name on your Match Card.

In the days after the event we will send you an email detailing the potential trustees who also expressed interest in furthering the conversation with you, along with a short event evaluation survey.

We then follow up with you in the coming months to see how the match is progressiing, and one final time in 6 months.

Quick tips to make best use of your evening!

With lots of charities and trustees in the room, you may not have time to speak to each candidate and need to get the most out of your time with each person. On average, you’ll only have a few minutes with each potential trustee. Remember these few minutes are not only an opportunity for you to tell them about your charity, but also for you to find out about them. Here are some quick tips to help you make best use of the event:

1. Don’t repeat what’s in your profile – the potential trustees will have already read the description of charity you gave at sign up. By all means introduce them to your charity, but don’t waste time by repeating information they already know.
2. Ask questions! Get to know the potential trustees: their motivations, ambitions and skills and think if this would fit with your charity, its trustees and purposes.
3. Invite them to ask you questions – a good opportunity to gauge their interest and motivations.

Good luck and happy recruiting!
