Event description
Join acclaimed Hungarian poet and novelist Krisztina Tóth and translator Owen Good for a discussion, reading and signing of 'Pixel'.

About this Event

Like stars in the sky, pixels may seem like tiny, individual points. But, when viewed from a distance, they can create elaborate images. Each pixel contributes to this array, but no individual point can create the whole. Similarly, the thirty stories that comprise this book are at once discrete and interconnected. From the mundane details, absurdities and chance encounters of daily life, an intricate (and often unseen) web of relationships is woven.

Krisztina Tóth is one of the most highly acclaimed Hungarian authors. She has published ten volumes of poetry and seven of prose and has won numerous awards, including the Graves Prize (1996), the József Attila Prize (2000) and the Laureate Prize (2008). Her writing subtly combines strong visual elements, intellectual reflection and an empathic, yet often ironic concern in everyday scenes and conflicts.

Owen Good is a teacher and translator living in Budapest. His translation of Tóth’s ‘Churning’ won Asymptote’s 2014 Close Approximations prize for emerging translators.

This event is presented by Seagull Books with support from the Hungarian Cultural Centre, London (Balassi Institute).
