KS2 Computing with Karen Sadler

Computing Unplugged  6th October 2016 1:00-3:30

  • To explore barefoot computing activities
  • To use unplugged activities to understand algorithms
  • To understand the computer including memory, processor and storage
  • To understand the difference between data and information
  • To use and understand binary 

Computer Networks  10th November 2016 1:00-3:30

  • To use logical reasoning to explain how simple algorithms work
  • To use bubble and quick sorting algorithms
  • To explore different sorting networks
  • To understand the Internet as a network


Scratch Programming  12th January 2017 1:00-3:30

Please note, this session will be held at St Wilfrid's School, S7 2HE

  • To use sequence, selection and repetition
  • To understand using variables and various forms of input and output
  • To design, write and debug programs including animations, quizzes and games

Controlling and Programming (Visual and Script Based)  16th March 2017 1:00-3:30

Please note, this session will be held at St Wilfrid's School, S7 2HE

  • To create flowcharts or programs to control onscreen devices
  • To explore input, outputs and variables
  • To look at the role of sensors and how they trigger outputs
  • To test, debug and edit programs
  • To create programs to text on external devices or models 


About Karen Sadler:

Primary Teacher trained and worked in Local Education Authority as Computing Consultant for 6 years leading on a range of teaching and learning initiatives. Currently teaching Computing and Online Safety across KS1 and KS2 at St Wilfrid's Primary School and lecturing PGCE and BA students at Sheffield Hallam University. Successfully trained and mentored teachers and student teachers on a variety of programmes.  Teacher of CAS (Computing At Schools) trained to deliver the Computing Curriculum | An accredited CEOP Ambassador (Child Exploitation Online Protection). A mentor for SDPGCE students studying at Sheffield Hallam University | Devised and delivered a Computing, Online Safety and Interactive Whiteboard training programme to PGCEand BA Students | Sheffield Interactive Whiteboard  Project - Devised and led a package for schools across Sheffield 

The cost of the 4 sessions is £360 + VAT, or 6 LUTSA  Credits (see www.lutsa.co.uk for details of the CPD package)
