Workshop Title: The Escape Plan
A live poetry workshop with Mark Grist for National Poetry Day
What to Expect:
Join published poet and performer Mark Grist for a 55-minute interactive poetry workshop designed to build confidence, spark creativity and inspire reflection. In line with the National Poetry Day theme of ‘PLAY’, this session invites students to explore the idea of escape—whether from pressure, boredom or routine—into something joyful, imaginative and unexpected.
What’s Included:
This lively, engaging workshop blends performance, discussion and guided writing. Mark models how poetry can be used as a playful outlet for emotions and a creative tool for self-expression. Students will be supported to develop their own poems based on personal ideas of escape, experimenting with language, structure and poetic technique.
Alongside individual writing, the session offers opportunities for group interaction and sharing, helping students build their voice, confidence and connection with others.
Activities are designed to support the KS3 English curriculum, reinforcing key skills such as the use of figurative language, vocabulary development, and imaginative composition. Students will leave with their own poem and a fresh appreciation of how language can offer a powerful, playful way to recharge and reflect.
