During Black History Month Keep The Faith magazine will be hosting a series of online talks that will provide food for thought as they shed light on the role of the church and black Christians on the following subject areas

Gospel Music

Black Entrepreneurship and

Politics.

The first talk, The Church and Gospel Music takes place on October 6 at 7.30pm.

Juliet Fletcher, a gospel music practitioner, will shed light on the history of gospel music here in the UK from the 1980s onwards looking at key developments and naming those people who played a major role in moving the music forward.

The second talk, The Church and Entrepreneurship takes place on October 13 at 7.30pm

There has been a rise in Black entrepreneurship. Colin will explore the church’s role in inspiring entrepreneurship, look a how they support entrepreneurs and provide examples of Christian business owners making an impact in the world of business.

The third talk, The Church and Politics takes place on October 20 at 7.30pm.

There have been constant calls for Black Christians to be more engaged in the world of politics. Bishop Derek Webley will provide an overview of the Black church and politics, sharing why and how Christians can engage in the political sphere

ABOUT THE SPEAKERS

JULIET FLETCHER is recognised as one of the leading figures in British Gospel Music. She is a pioneer of the scene. She has worked as a former BBC TV & Radio Producer on programs like Gospel Train and The Denise Williams Show.. She is director of GreenTree Productions and Founder of GMIA The Gospel Music Industry Alliance which represents a voice for the sector in the UK

COLIN TOMLIN is a vision-led people builder and values-driven community champion based in Norfolk. His career is a tapestry of diverse experiences, from key roles at Prudential and Virgin to impactful work within the social sector. He currently serves as a Generous Giving Adviser for the Diocese of Norwich.

At the heart of Colin’s work is a singular ambition: to help others discover, define & deliver their BiG ideas. Alongside his wife, Judy, he co-publishes Pitch Black magazine, a platform dedicated to celebrating, cheering and challenging the UK's Black entrepreneurs and executives to tune out the noise and turn up with poise.

BISHOP DEREK WEBLEY is a Minister of Religion for the New Testament Church of God, having previously served as its National Director of Evangelism, then National Director of Youth and Christian Education and the District Bishop for Birmingham/Solihull.

Bishop Derek has served on a number of committees, including Relate (Executive Member), Lord Chancellor Advisory Committee, Birmingham Citizens, Chair of The Drum (Arts organisation), he is a member of the Rotary Club of Birmingham, , and was Chair of the West Midlands Police Authority.
