Event description

Description

Anyone wishing to expand their knowledge and understanding of Knowledge Transfer Partnerships (KTPs) is invited to attend the University’s upcoming masterclass. This masterclass will provide an introduction to KTPs including:

  • The benefits of KTPs, including academic examples of best-practice

  • An introduction to the University’s regional Innovate UK KTP adviser

  • Guidance on how to maximise your chance of a successful application

KTPs are one of the longest standing schemes available to academics for industry collaboration. This UK wide-scheme sponsors partnerships between academics and companies to solve problems identified by the partner organisation and can last between 12 and 36 months. Each KTP is a three-way partnership between a business, an academic institution and an associate (graduate). The associate is recruited to work with the organisation and is jointly supervised.

KTPs have undergone a change which means

  • KTP closing dates now align with Innovate UK’s sector competitions

  • KTP projects submitted have to ‘broadly’ fit with the competition theme

  • There are now only TWO open calls per year for KTP submission

Agenda

11.00 Introduction and overview to KTPs – Trevor Gregory (Regional KTP Advisor)

11.20 Sharing best practise: what makes a good KTP? – (Academic examples, TBC)

12.00 Application guidance – Fred Dobson (KTP Consultant)

12.20 Q&A session

12.30 Lunch

KTPs can provide you with the opportunity to:

  • Partner with innovative businesses looking to expand their research and development capabilities

  • Facilitate a collaboration with potential to further understand the commercial need and lead to measurable research impact

  • Secure funding to further your research

  • Identify new research themes, potentially resulting in further research collaborations

  • Raise your academic profile and provide contributions towards the Research Excellence Framework (REF)
