Event description

Description

There are two sports nutrition sessions that schools can choose from:

Either,

1a. Overview of Sport Nutrition – and make your own sports drink!

This session is a generic introduction to sports nutrition. Including;

· Learn how a healthy balanced diet is adapted to fit the needs of training and competition for different sports and events.

· Identify the main nutrients and their role within sport, understand the concept of energy balance, and how to read food labels.

· Learn how to apply the information learnt in this workshop to different sporting and non-sporting scenarios

Perhaps have a go at making your own sports drink using the same ingredients in popular brands! What really goes into our drinks?

OR

1b. Energy use, diet, nutrition and hydration

This session is ideal for GCSE PE students and includes:

· The nutritional requirements and ratio of nutrients for a balanced diet to maintain a healthy lifestyle and optimise specific performances in physical activity and sport.

· The role and importance of macronutrients (carbohydrates, proteins and fats) for performers/players in physical activities and sports, carbohydrate loading for endurance athletes, and timing of protein intake for power athletes

· The role and importance of micronutrients (vitamins and minerals), water and fibre for performers/players in physical activities and sports

· The correct energy balance to maintain a healthy weight

Schools booking this session will be contacted nearer the time to confirm their choice of session.

This session will run 3 times and schools will be required to meet 15 minutes before the session start time.
