About La Mesa

La Mesa is a queer, food-centred community event where people come together to share dishes, stories, and connection. The aim is to create welcoming, fun spaces where everyone can gather around food and enjoy each other’s company.

About We Build Brighton

We Build Brighton is run by Lucy, who lovingly tends their allotment, digging, growing, and harvesting fresh produce like plums, potatoes, kale, apples, and more.

This collaboration is your chance to roll up your sleeves, get your hands in the soil, and help seed, weed, and harvest. You will also be able to take some of the day’s produce home with you.

After our gardening session, we will come together for a La Mesa 'Bring Your Own Dish lunch' with a fresh theme inspired by the day’s pickings. A BBQ will be available for anyone who would like to use it, so feel free to bring something to cook.

Schedule:

  • 11:00 AM – Arrive promptly at the allotment and get stuck into planting and harvesting.
  • 1:30 PM – Shared lunch among the greenery.
  • 3:00 PM – Event wrap-up.
