Event description

Description

You’re invited to… Lab Liftoff: Game Invention

Join us for a full day skills camp for children aged 7-12 years, inventing games and learning to code with BBC micro:bit, a tiny programmable computer and Scratch 3, a coding programme.

What can I expect at Lab Liftoff: Game Invention

Working in small teams, children will learn how to use BBC micro:bit and learn coding through Scratch 3 to build and design their own games, either recreating their favourites or inventing new games straight from their imaginations.

Activities include:

  • Game creation: use BBC micro:bit to re-create old school classics including Pinball Machines, Rock Paper Scissors, and Buzz Wires.
  • Game invention: using the coding programme Scratch 3, children will have the opportunity to design their own games through code. They can be inspired by their favourites or invent totally new computer games! Children will also have the opportunity to learn how to use BBC micro:bit as game controllers.

When is Lab Liftoff: Game Invention?

This camp is taking place on Wednesday 29 May, from 10:00am until 4:00pm. This is a drop-off event, children do not need to be accompanied by a parent or carer during the workshop. There will be a show and tell at 3:30pm, which parents/ carers are encouraged to attend. Children should be collected at 4:00pm.
