Event description

Description

Part of Repowering Britain, a series of events organised by the Labour Energy Forum in collaboration with Platform London, for the 2017 Labour Conference fringe.

With Rupa Huq MP, Kerry McCarthy MP, Helen Hayes MP, Allison Roche (Policy Officer, UNISON), Cllr Anna Birley (Lambeth Council), Sarah Shoraka (Campaigner, Platform), Sakina Sheikh (Labour Energy Forum)

We face a fossil free future. Coal power stations are closing. Solar and wind will power much of our lives. The grid needs to be repurposed for the 21st century.

Labour’s local government pension funds are heavily invested in fossil fuels, like fracking, tar sands and coal. If Labour councils divested their pension funds, it would free up capital to reinvest into social housing, community energy, public transport and the just transition.

Join us to discuss how Labour can build a vision for a clean sustainable future and how we achieve it together.

Repowering Britain is a space for bold left visions for a transformed economy, society and energy system. We will bring together thinkers and doers from across the Labour Party and trade union movement to discuss what our country should look like in 10, 20, 30 years. The Party’s manifesto has inspired millions. We will build on that to envision a reindustrialised and democratised economy that addresses the climate crisis and hands back control. Click here for the full programme of events.

Accessibility information: Our venue is wheelchair-accessible from the street. Unfortunately the toilets are located in the basement down a spiral staircase. Toilets are gendered male and female. Sound will be amplified. We are investigating supplying a T-Loop. We are not able to offer sign language interpreting. Free creche for children accompanying adults with Labour Conference passes is provided at Conference. If you have any enquiries about access needs that aren’t covered here, please email info@labourenergy.org with the subject line ‘Access’.
