Event description

Description

A move to Proportional Representation is the single most important change we can make to transform British politics and to build the kind of progressive, egalitarian society enjoyed by many of the UK's European peers. Only by persuading the Labour Party to support PR can this transformation become a reality.

This workshop is for Labour members who want to play an important role in this vital campaign. A recent independent poll found that 76% of Labour voters believe the party should commit to PR. The Labour Campaign for Electoral Reform needs help from activists to channel this enthusiasm and facilitate CLP calls for PR.

Hosted by Make Votes Matter and the Labour Campaign for Electoral Reform, this workshop will:

  • Set out the strategic approach for getting PR in the next Labour Manifesto.
  • Cover the Labour arguments for electoral reform, and responses to common objections.
  • Suggest to attendees how to communicate these arguments to Labour Party members, including by raising resolutions and speaking to CLP meetings.
  • Inform about how members can help move the campaign forward.

All Labour Party members who support PR for UK General Elections are welcome.
