Event description

Description

With Professor Ann Sumner.

The current exhibition at Harewood is devoted to Lady Charlotte Canning. She was a talented watercolour artist, travelling as lady-in-waiting to Queen Victoria for whom she recorded visits to Balmoral, Osborne and the Continent. Her husband Charles Canning became Governor-General of India in 1855, and thereafter she recorded scenes of Indian life at the same time corresponding with the Queen at a dramatic time in the history of the sub-continent.
Professor Sumner is Historic Collections Adviser to the Harewood collection, and will talk on this remarkable woman and her work, thereafter (after the house is closed) we will have a chance to view the exhibition of watercolours.
Members are welcome to view the State Rooms prior to the lecture.
