About this Event

These tours are offered as part of the National Trust’s Heritage Open Days, opening the doors to sites and events normally unavailable to the public.

The Lakeside Energy from Waste facility is just off the M25 – close to Heathrow airport – and has been operating since 2010. It is a joint venture between Grundon Waste Management and Viridor, and treats waste from local authorities and businesses seeking to direct their non-recyclable waste away from landfill.

Using advanced technology, Lakeside Energy from Waste facility currently processes over 440,000 tonnes of non-recyclable waste each year.

In 2013, solar panels were installed on the curved roof, to generate even more sustainable energy on site.

Lakeside Energy from Waste facility is one of the most modern facilities of its kind in the UK, operating under strict environmental controls under an Environment Agency Permit.

The facility is recognised by the waste management industry and beyond for its contribution towards the green agenda. It has won awards from the Solar UK Industry, the Renewable Energy Infrastructure Awards, the PEEL People’s Cup and Lets Recycle Awards.
