Description

Based at YMCA Lakeside, which is situated in The Lake District. This is one of England’s National Parks, and home to lake Windermere, which is the country’s largest lake. This Discovery Visit brings together team building activities, seaside resorts, YMCA projects, and the great outdoors.

This part of England is famous for being the home of Beatrix Potter, the English ‘stick of rock’, kiss-me-quick hats, rolling hills, picturesque countryside, lakes, forests and mountains. It is also the home of the famous English poet, William Wordsworth.

Highlights of this Discovery Visit will include:

  • Accommodation and meals at the brand-new purpose-built Outdoor Activity Centre, situated on picturesque Lake Windermere

  • Take part in a range of YMCA youth activities at Lancaster YMCA, meeting Youth Project Ambassadors, and helping the local community by fundraising for youth projects.

  • Outdoor team-building activities including high ropes, archery, challenge course and raft building, with a picnic lunch.

  • Meet with groups of young leaders participating in the YMCA NCS summer programme and assist them in planning their community based social action projects.

  • A trip to quintessentially British seaside resort Blackpool and the famous Blackpool Tower tour which will include the tower dungeons experience, the Tower Eye, 4d cinema, and a Tour of the Famous Blackpool Tower Ballroom (hosts of BBC TV Show Strictly Come Dancing), as well as free time to experience Blackpool Airshow which takes place on Sunday 11 August.

This visit is being coordinated by The Fylde Coast YMCA

The Discovery Visit will begin on Thursday 8 August and ends on the morning of Monday 12 August.

Arrival is to Oxenholme Station, where delegates will be met and transported to YMCA Lakeside by coach. The coach will then transport delegates throughout their stay.

Trip Information

Accommodation is included for the night of Thursday 8 until Sunday 11 August finihsing with breakfast on Monday 12 August, catering begins with lunch on Thursday 8 August.

Your trip start point is Oxenholme Station on 8 August 15.22 pm (you will need to arrange to catch the 12.30 train from Euston, London). Your visit will finish at Oxenholme Station on Monday 12 August after breakfast at your accommodation and you will need to arrange your onward travel from this point.

During your visit your host YMCA will coordinate travel, accommodation, food and ticket entry to any excursions.

Helpful travel advice
The nearest airports for your return journey are Manchester to the south and Glasgow to the north. There is a railway station at Manchester airport with services that run to Oxenholme (nearest rail station).
