Event description

Description

Land of Promise is an eye-opening musical journey through three centuries of radical thought, action and song about our land, homes and the struggle to make lives better for ordinary people.

The show tells a story that starts with the Diggers Declaration of 1649 and takes us through to the fight to reclaim our cities for people today. From John Clare to Benjamin Zephania and Bob Dylan, the performance celebrates the power of art and music to communicate radical ideas. It is an inspirational reminder of the imagination and personal bravery of people who've fought to protect our environment and create decent places to live.

'Land of Promise' has been performed across the country, including London, Liverpool, Bristol, Sheffield, Stainsby Festival and sold-out performances at the Hay Literary Festival. It is performed by the TCPA, with music by Chris Ellis and Rosie Toll.

Listen here to "Langley Bush", an original setting by Chris Ellis of two John Clare poems, "The Mores" and "Remembrances", that features in "Land of Promise.
