About this event
This Online event brings together a panel of local and national land use experts, organisations, artists and most important of all… you, to learn from each other about land use decision making, community concerns around land-use change, and how we can all input our thoughts to help shape our futures.
What is the land use debate?
Conversations around land use generally discuss different land management options including farming, forestry, conservation, peatland restoration, managing habitats for biodiversity, carbon offsetting, community amenity and often stray into land reform. These areas often overlap and can present opportunities, but with change also comes tension and we need to have these conversations in the open.
What’s driving land use change:
Drivers include net zero targets, reversing biodiversity loss, economic growth.
Who is this event for?
This event is for everyone, whether you’re already involved in the land use debate or are a complete newbie and wonder what all the fuss is about. Land Use change is already well underway in the Glenkens and we want everyone to have the opportunity to understand the drivers for change and how local communities and businesses can use their voices and actions to create outcomes that work for everyone.
Who’s already coming?
Panellists will include Andy Tharme, Regional Land Use Partnership pilot; Hamish Trench, Scottish Land Commission and the GSA Biosphere.
Artists Kate Foster and Claire Pençak will talk about the ways that they as artists (visual and dance/choreographic), have been engaged with land use and in particular the development of Land Use Strategy for Scotland through the previous Borders Region Pilot.
Each panellist will give a brief introduction to their work which will be followed by a Q&A session.
Join us for a stimulating discussion & to share your views.
Event organised by local artists Leeming & Paterson, in partnership with the Galloway Glens Scheme.
