Event description

Description

The 2018 Geminid meteor shower peaks on the evening of December 13th, into the morning of December 14th.

The outlook for the shower is 'good', and the Moon will be at First Quarter, so there should still be plenty of visible meteors.

I'll be taking two small groups (maximum 10 photographers) to a location in Weardale for a landscape astrophotography workshop, with an emphasis on capturing meteors.

While the meeting point is in Stanhope, we'll drive to the best dark sky location nearby, with the best sky conditions on the night. The first group will head out with me at 6.00pm, and the second group at 9.30pm.

It's not for absolute beginners, but all you need to be able to do is adjust your shutter speed and ISO, and focus a lens manually, using LiveView. If you've already been on an astrophotography workshop with me, or have been through 'Control Your Camera', you'll be fine.

You'll need a tripod, and a wide lens (zoom or prime). The wider the aperture of your lens, the better (f/2.8 or wider makes it really easy to focus on stars).

Please note, to keep prices down, your booking is non-refundable (however, it is possible to transfer your booking to someone else).

In the event of adverse weather, the workshop will be postponed and you will be offered a place on another astrophotography workshop.

After you make your booking, you will receive an email two days before the workshop. This email provides you with advice on equipment and notifying you of the meeting location.
