Event description
Discover how language works and meet the experts from the University of Essex. This event is part of the Festival of Social Science 2019.

About this Event

Join us for a fascinating series of talks and discover how language really works. Explore the sounds and creation of words, learn how we use language to express and create identity, all in a unique gallery setting in the heart of Colchester. This event is part of the Festival of Social Science 2019.

Language is all around us. We use language to connect with others, study, send work e-mails, tell jokes, and convey our deepest thoughts. But how does language work? And what does this mean in a constantly more global culture?

This series of talks will be hosted by Dr Kyle Jerro, Dr Tracey Costley, Dr Hannah Gibson and Dr Ella Jeffries from the Department of Language and Linguistics. This is your chance to meet the experts on linguistics, multilingualism, language contact and sociolinguistics.

The event will run from 12pm - 3pm on Saturday 9 November at the Firstsite Gallery in Colchester. A free selection of mezes will be provided from 12pm by White Gardenia.
