Language Matters: Trauma-Informed Writing in Work with Children & Families

Online event

Overview

Explore how you can use trauma-informed language so writing becomes a tool for understanding and collaboration.

“Fantastic, engaging and informative.”
“Really helpful, would recommend to colleagues.”

Join the Compassionate Leeds team to explore how the words we use in plans, reports, and records shape experiences. This session will show how trauma-informed writing can build trust, reduce power imbalances, and support compassionate practice—turning documentation into a tool for collaboration, not control.

Together, we will explore:

  • Reflect on how language in written records can shape experiences and relationships.
  • Explore how behaviours shaped by trauma may be misunderstood—and how to describe them with curiosity and compassion.
  • Practice reframing common phrases into strengths-based, trauma-informed language.

Who should attend?
Anyone who writes about children, young people, and families—across education, health, social care, or the third sector.

You can find more information regarding the programme team on the Compassionate Leeds Trauma Informed Information Hub or email itipcommunityofpractice@leeds.gov.uk.
