Event description
An event for those working for and with children and young people who are interested in developing understandings of bilingualism.

About this Event

This workshop intends to bring those working for, and with, children and young people together to discuss and develop understandings of bilingualism and language learning.

The findings from a Carnegie Trust funded research project, 'Language, Place and Identity: exploring children's linguistic and cognitive development in heritage and community languages', will be distributed at this event. This project sought to gain a greater understanding of how young people navigate their bilingual identity. The research was a collaborative project between the Universities of Edinburgh (Bilingualism Matters and the Centre for Research on Families and Relationships) and the University of the Highlands and Islands (Sabhal Mòr Ostaig and Inverness College).

Furthermore, speakers will include:

  • Professor Antonella Sorace, Director, Bilingualism Matters (University of Edinburgh)
  • Bernard Chisholm, Director of Education and Children's Services, Comhairle nan Eilean Siar
  • Calum Alex MacMillan, Development Manager, Fèisean nan Gàidheal
  • Dr Clare Daly, Project Manager, Highland Migrant and Refugee Advocacy (HiMRA)

There will also be opportunities for networking and roundtable discussion in order to promote collaborative working and shared learning.
