About this event
Take a step back in time to Lark Hill Place, an atmospheric re-creation of a typical northern street during Victorian times.
The street is set at the turn of the last century, although many of the items are older to show development over time. The ambiance is set at teatime on a winter's evening when the street gas lamps have just been lit. The sounds of children playing, horse-drawn carriages and a 'knocker-upper' fill the street. Walk down the street and take a peek inside the many shops and houses, including a toy shop, chemist, grocers, a blacksmiths and an artisan's cottage.
From the 15th October until the 1st November 2020 the street has been given a Halloween makeover using decorations and items from the museum collections - see if you can spot what has changed!. While you're in Lark Hill Place why not have a go at our trail (available from 17th October) - Find Famine! Have a go at spotting the tiny copies of one of our best-loved paintings 'Famine' - find all the letters to work out the name of the artist. Trails are disposable and you will get your own pencil and sticker so please be assured that this is a safe activity.
