Overview
Course description:
This interactive online course provides refresher training on all aspects of the ‘core of knowledge’ syllabus as defined in the MHRA Guidance on the safe use of lasers, intense light source systems and LEDs in medical, surgical, dental and aesthetic practices.
Written by certified LPAs, the course is aimed at clinicians, nurses, operating department practitioners, medical physicists, technicians, and others who have previously completed a ‘core of knowledge’ course and are looking to recertify.

Course aim:
Two weeks before the webinar, participants are given access to the pre-recorded presentations via the UHS’ Virtual Learning Environment website.
The areas covered are:
- Characteristics of laser radiation
- Laser hazards and interactions with tissue
- Safety procedures and hazard control methods
- Legislation and safety standards
All presentations must be watched before joining the live webinar and, as a guide, you will need around 5 hours to watch them.

Access:
Once enrolled in the course, you will be sent instructions within 24 working hours on how to access this e-learning package. You can complete the course in your own time, and you do NOT need to attend on the advertised date/time.
