Last Resort is a multi-sensory performance about the detention of terror suspects at Guantanamo Bay. Commissioned by The Lowry for Week 53 in May, and also performed as part of A Nation’s Theatre at The Southbank Centre, we’re delighted to bring Last Resort to Sheffield this November.
Barack Obama's first pledge as US president was to close Guantanamo Bay in Cuba. As his presidency ends, it is still home to 61 prisoners. Last Resort looks at the legitimacy of terror detention from the perspective of a future Guantanamo Bay, now a holiday resort. This is based on the holiday resort that exists in Guantanamo Bay Naval Base now, frequented by US military personal and their families...
Expect sun, sea, sand and enhanced interrogation techniques. The show is site-responsive, and being performed in transformed industrial buildings, specifically a former Woolworths (Theatre Deli) in Sheffield.
Please note this performance will take place in our basement, so do wrap up warm!
Unfortunately this is not an accessible performance.
