What better way to dream of a trip to Latin America than through your taste buds and listening to Latin music while you learn how to cook.

About this event

Learn to cook authentic meals from around Latin America during our Latin American cooking classes. Each Latin American country has a distinctive culture and colonial history— and as a result, its own unique cuisine. While chilis, rice, beans, corn, potatoes, and fresh salsas are found throughout Latin America, they are modernized in some places, traditional in others, with a tropical twist in still others.

From Peru to Costa Rica to the Caribbean, indigenous foodways blend with Spanish colonial food and modern cooking techniques and local ingenuity for delicious results. Our Latin American chefs share their culture and cuisines, their stories and recipes, their tips and tricks. What better way to dream of a trip to Latin America than through your tastebuds.

This workshop will be led by one of our Community Chef Mercedes Cohen, a skilled and talented women that has led the Peruvian and Latin community in Edinburgh for many years. Mercedes is passionate about the Latin American culture, music, food and art. She is from Peru and would love to share with you her recipes, music and charisma.

Come and enjoy of this unique opportunity to learn how to cook the yummy "Cause Rellena" (Peruvian dish)

Causa Rellena is a typical and widespread entrée of the Peruvian gastronomy which has a pre-Columbian origin. In the ancient Peru, it was prepared with yellow potatoes, which have a soft texture, and kneaded with crushed chilli peppers, although it can also be made with any other variety of potato. It can be filled with tuna, pulled pork, beef, chicken or a nice salad with avocado. In this class we will fill it with tuna.

All dishes made will be enjoyed after class in a lunch with the students and the teacher. Bring a small Tupperware in case there is any leftover that you can take home :)

Some cooking skills are required in this workshop i.e. basic knife skills. Please bring some containers to take home any leftovers. If you have any allergies, please let us know when you are booking.
