Event description

Description

Details: please read.

The session lasts up to one hour, all ages welcome. You do not need any equipment, wear something comfortable, bring some water, that's all. Also, be willing to have fun and be playful.

We do not do yoga stretches. It is laughter exercises combined with yogic deep breathing techniques.

The concept of Laughter Yoga is based on the scientific fact that our brain cannot differentiate between fake and real laughter. It creates feel good hormones either way, to which we add yogic breathing for added well-being.

Take part regularly and you will get these great benefits:
good mood; healthy exercise (it's like an aerobic exercise); reduced stress and strengthened immune system; improved creativity.
It's great for team bonding.
Laughter is a positive energy that improves quality of life when practised regularly. It helps to create a positive mental state, giving hope, optimism and resilience.

Laughter Yoga is an exercise routine that was designed in 1995 by a medical doctor from India, Dr Kataria.

We all need laughter and happiness in our lives, so join in the fun and come to our sessions.

Read these CONTRA-INDICATIONS before booking please:

Laughter Yoga is not a substitute for medical consultation for physical, mental and psychological illnesses, but is a powerful natural complementary form of healing. It is like any other aerobic exercise and may not be suitable for everyone as it involves some physical strain and a rise in intra-abdominal pressure.

It is contra-indicated for people suffering from -
any kind of hernia, heart disease with angina pain, persistent cough with breathlessness, uncontrolled high blood pressure, urine incontinence, epilepsy, advanced (bleeding) piles and haemorrhoids or any bleeding tendencies in any part of the body, severe backache, any acute symptoms of cough, cold and fever.

People who have undergone major surgery should wait at least three months before doing Laughter Yoga. If in doubt, first consult a medical professional for guidance.

Anyone undergoing physician-prescribed therapy that experiences improvements through laughter should seek the advice of their doctor before reducing dosage or stopping treatment.

Relative contra-indications -

Those suffering from heart disease and high blood pressure but are stable on medication and can take a brisk walk for 30 minutes without any symptoms can do Laughter Yoga with advice from medical specialists.

People who have had surgery can also do Laughter Yoga after their stress test is normal.

Pregnancy is also a relative contra-indication. Women with previous history of miscarriages and those who are in advanced stage of pregnancy should take medical advice from specialists before doing the exercises.

People suffering from minor and major psychiatric disorders can participate in a laughter session except those who are not in touch with reality, e.g. schizophrenia, hyper-mania (manic part of bipolar depression).

Laughter Yoga is like any other aerobic exercise. Please use your common sense. If you feel sudden or new pain during the session, please leave the session immediately, or advise the leader if you require assistance. Should you experience any discomfort, please discontinue and get medical advice.

Minor discomforts after doing Laughter Yoga -

Some people complain of a mild headache after doing the exercises. This is quite common, and it settles down on its own. However, if it continues it may be due to excessive force being applied during the exercises. Take it easy, do the exercises gently. Put emphasis on feelings rather than applying force.

Positive outcome: we have had many people suffering from migraine headaches for years who have benefited from doing Laughter Yoga. As one reason for migraine attacks is stress and pent-up emotions, Laughter Yoga can act like an emotional release.

Another common complaint is throat irritation or mild cough. This is also quite normal. Be reassured and just do not laugh too hard. Drink water throughout the activity.
