Join us on Friday 17 October from 12pm – 1.30pm to hear more about the findings and recommendations from our joint inspection of the effectiveness of diverting children from the criminal justice system: meeting needs, ensuring safety, and preventing reoffending.

HM Inspectorate of Probation and HM Inspectorate of Constabulary and Fire & Rescue Services (HMICFRS) last inspected this topic in 2018. Since then, there has been a substantial and sustained increase in the use of out-of-court disposals (OoCDs) for children, alongside a notable shift in the types of disposals being issued. The profile of children receiving OoCDs has also changed. Many now present with more complex needs and have had repeated contact with services such as the police and children’s social care.

Inspectors from both Inspectorates will be discussing the key messages and findings from this report, and following the presentation, will be on-hand to answer your questions.
