Launch and Learn: University Gambling Harms Toolkit (Ara Recovery for All)
Overview
Join us for a special lunch and learn session on Thursday 22nd January, where we will be launching Ara’s new university gambling harms toolkit ‘From Freshers’ Week to Losing Streak’.
According to a 2025 survey of university students across the UK by YGam, 49% of students gambled in the past twelve months. This evidence-based toolkit has been developed to address the limited understanding of gambling harms in the university sector, by providing universities and student unions with key information and practical tools to: (i) improve staff awareness of gambling harms, (ii) build capacity to better support gambling harms, and (iii) raise awareness in the student body.
This evidence-based toolkit has been developed by Jordan White and Ben Parker, two graduate students from the University of Bristol. Over the last year, Jordan and Ben co-created this toolkit with a wide range of stakeholders including university wellbeing, financial support, accommodation and student engagement teams, student unions, university students, individuals with lived experience of gambling harms, psychotherapists, social workers and UX designers.
Jordan and Ben (Fair Play Toolkit Limited) will introduce you to the toolkit and explain how it can be used to reduce gambling harms on campus. Later, Dave Hewer (Ara Recovery for All) will explain how Ara Recovery for All can support institutions by alleviating the pressure on university wellbeing services across the South West of England, and Wales. This will be followed by a Q&A.
This event will take place online via Microsoft Teams. Sign up via Eventbrite to receive the link to join this session.
