Description
'A love letter to Scotland – its past, present and future – and an exhilarating portrait of the power of community in a time of change. Transformative and inspirational.' - GAVIN FRANCIS, Adventures In Human Being
We could not be more thrilled to host the launch of Jemma Neville's Consitution Street, one of the most hotly anticipated books of 2019, by one of Edinburgh's own. A counter to Brexit panic publishing, Constitution Street explores ideas of community, human rights and constitutional crossroads to offer a calm vision of a way forward in uncertain times. Fellow Leither, writer and award winning journalist Chitra Ramaswamy will be interviewing Jemma for the launch!
Welcome to Constitution Street, Edinburgh. The street, like the world at large, is in a moment of flux. Part memoir, part social history and a call to action, Constitution Street is an antidote to an age of personal and political anxiety. Here, the real-life stories on one street, shared with Jemma Neville and framed by her own, reveal the courage, perseverance and capacity for love within us all. Neighbour by neighbour, street by street, reclaiming our human rights as something too important to be left solely to lawyers and politicians, will unite us with our sense of belonging and common purpose.
'A beguiling and important book. It opens an important conversation about our communities and country.' - SARA SHERIDAN
** DOORS at 6.15. START at 6.30 sharp END 7.30 followed by book signing**

This event, at this terrific venue, was made possible with sponsorship from the Institute for Advanced Studies in the Humanities.
The Institute for Advanced Studies in the Humanities was established in 1969 to promote interdisciplinary research in the arts, humanities and social sciences at the University of Edinburgh. In 2019, they celebrate their 50th anniversary. IASH provide an international, interdisciplinary and autonomous space for discussion and debate. Since their foundation, more than 1,300 scholars from 70 countries have held Institute fellowships; and up to 28 Fellows are in residence at any one time. Housed in a secluded 19th-century courtyard overlooking the Meadows, the Institute is adjacent to most centres of University activity. Jemma Neville held a Community Fellowship in 2017-18, and they are delighted to be sponsoring the launch of Constitution Street.
