We are delighted to invite you to the launch of the publication by the UK Jurisdiction Taskforce (UKJT) of a Legal Statement on the Status of Cryptoassets and Smart Contracts by the Lord Chancellor, the Rt Hon Robert Buckland QC MP and the Lord Chief Justice, the Rt Hon Lord Burnett of Maldon and the Chancellor of the High Court, the Rt Hon Sir Geoffrey Vos.

The Legal Statement has been drafted by a team of experts in the field, led by Lawrence Akka QC and David Quest QC. By giving the best possible answers to critical legal questions under English law, its aim is to provide a legal foundation for the responsible future utilisation of cryptoassets and smart contracts - and to help market confidence and predictability in areas that are of great importance to the technological and legal communities and to the global financial services industry.

The launch, hosted by the City of London Corporation, is an important opportunity to bring together those from the legal, financial and technological sectors most likely to feel the immediate impact of its publication. It is also an opportunity to thank all those who have been involved in the extensive consultation to which it has been subject, and whose comments and suggestions have been a critical and invaluable part of its production.
