Over the last two years The Institute for Outdoor Learning Forest School Special Interest Group (IOL FSSIG) and the Forest School Trainers Network (FSTN) have been consulting the wider Forest School community and employed a development worker to look into the need and feasibility of establishing a Forest School Professional organisation.
From this process a business plan has been developed (for a copy please e-mail Erica Wellings at Erica@awellings.com ). The way forward has been mapped out based on the consultation responses.
The organisation will employ a development officer once it has been constituted. It will be a social enterprise and company limited by guarantee operating as a charity with the following objectives.
To improve the quality and standards of all those involved in the delivery of Forest school and training of practitioners for the benefit of the Forest School community and the learners involved.
To support the development of Forest School across the UK
To provide a professional voice for Forest School practitioners and trainers.
To formulate National Occupational Standards and establish a qualification on the national qualification framework.
To share best practice amongst Forest School practitioners.
To provide research opportunities.
To explore funding opportunities for Forest Schools.
There is currently an additional consultation on the name, shape of and representation of the strategic body – if you wish to participate then go to http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/New_FS_Org_Name_Structure and use the password: Pine– the consultation closes on May 16th.
If you are interested in standing for the strategic group and supporting what is probably one of the most important events to date in the growth of the FS movement in the UK then please contact Chris Millett on email@example.com for more information.
