The Centre for Social Justice and Community Action at Durham University is launching a new Participatory Research Hub, which aims to support and promote participatory research that involves DURHAM University researchers (staff and postgraduate students) working with NORTH EAST community groups and other organisations. The project is funded through Durham University’s Economic and Social Research Council Impact Acceleration Account.

The Launch will be a chance for people from Durham University and a range of NE community and other organisations to meet, share inspirations and issues, participate in workshops and hear about the workings and impact of recent community-university research partnerships such as Thrive Teesside. There will be an introductory talk from Prof Mary Brydon-Miller, Director of the Action Research Centre, University of Cincinnati, USA; participatory workshops with Refugee Youth and; networking opportunities; and a light buffet.

16:00 – 16:30: Welcome and introduction: participatory research and examples of community-university collaboration (PRH staff and Thrive Teesside)

16:30 – 17:00: Plenary keynote presentation: Prof Mary Brydon-Miller (University of Cincinnati) “Why do participatory research?”

17:00 – 17:45: Interactive workshop with Refugee Youth (www.refugeeyouth.org) to discuss their approach to participatory research.

17:45 – 18:30: How can we support participatory research? Small groups and plenary

18:30 – 19:00: Buffet and opportunities for networking
