Description

Home and Displacement are critically important topics for the Somali community and this year’s festival opens with a timely and stimulating discussion on these themes. This event will feature Dr.Idil Osman, Senior Teaching Fellow at SOAS, University of London and author of newly published book Media, Diaspora and the Somali Conflict. Joining this discussing is Hanna Ali, another Teaching Fellow and PhD candidate at SOAS, University of London, whose research focuses on questions of home, identity, and displacement. The evening will conclude with performances by Hodan Abdirahman, the well-loved and popular young Somali musician, based in the United States; and the celebrated singer Maryan Mursal, member of the National Theatre group, Waaberiin the 80s and the only Somali woman artist who has been recorded by Peter Gabriel's Real World Records.
