Event description

Description

Led by Dr Mohammed Rahman, Birmingham Urban Studies (BUS) embodies the University's strategic aim to transform Birmingham and the region through innovative, ground-breaking research into criminality and deviance in this part of the UK. There are well developed research communities providing insights into crime and deviance within other major cities in England and Wales. However, there is little academic work focusing on Birmingham.

BUS will fill this void, exploring the nature and extent of crime and deviance in the region and identifying needs-led, realistic solutions towards working with those affected by crime. Research within BUS will encompass organised crime, gangs, homicide, hate crime and terrorism.

Formally launching on Thursday 1st March 2018, BUS will bring together criminologists, practitioners and community figures with vast and varied experience of researching both with those engaged in criminal activity and with those tasked with tackling crime and its effects. BUS aims to create a dynamic and vibrant forum for research on local issues, collaborative partnerships, outreach work and knowledge exchange.
