Event description

Description

The Dementia Services Development Centre's (DSDC) dementia education training programme is being launched in Stirling for family carers and volunteers supporting someone with a diagnosis of dementia.

How will family carers benefit?
A diagnosis of dementia can be stressful and life changing. All too often there is a lack of support and information available for family carers. These workshops have been developed to provide family carers with the information and skills they need. The workshops are also a fantastic opportunity to meet neighbours who are in a similar situation; it can reduce feelings of loneliness and isolation while being a source of reassurance.

How will volunteers benefit?
With more people with dementia living in communities, there is a growing reliance on third sector organisations to support them. Many of the services in the community that people with dementia and their carers grow to rely on are staffed by volunteers. This training will provide volunteers with an understanding of dementia and provide practical solutions to scenarios they may encounter. This will give them the confidence to better support those they help in the community.

This launch is an opportunity to find out more about the project and meet the project partners.
