Event description
Launch of Transforming Universities for a Changing Climate research project

About this Event

Transforming Universities for a Changing Climate engages with the worldwide challenge of ensuring a sustainable future. The project, led by University College London, works with institutions in Brazil, Fiji, Kenya and Mozambique to implement locally designed initiatives to transform the curriculum, make campuses more sustainable, and empower students, staff and local communities to work collaboratively. While the project will bring impact at the local level through these interventions, it also seeks to generate the knowledge needed to transform policies at the national level, and bring change across the whole higher education system. Working in partnership with the Association of Commonwealth Universities, and other international bodies, the project will also engage institutions at the global level, fostering dialogue between English and Portuguese speaking countries, and between Latin America, Africa and Asia. The project is funded under the Global Challenges Research Fund (GCRF) by the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC).

The launch will include short inputs from representatives of each of the partner universities: Prof Tristan McCowan (University College London), Dr Jackline Nyerere (Kenyatta University), Dr Rosiana Lagi (University of the South Pacific), Dr Patrício Langa (Eduardo Mondlane University), Dr Luciana Brandli (University of Passo Fundo) and Alex Wright (Association of Commonwealth Universities). There will then be an open debate around higher education and sustainable development, followed by a drinks reception.
