Launch of 'What Happens To Girls' by Jennifer Copley
Event Information
About this Event
Jennifer Copley is one of Cumbria's most well-respected contemporary poets. Come and join us for the launch of her fourth full-length collection 'What Happens To Girls', published by Pindrop Press.
Moniza Alvi writes that 'To read Copley’s limpid, addictive poems is to be immersed in both the magical and the hyper-real. She’s a true original, matter of fact with wonders. Her touch is astonishingly sure, her work always a joy, and this is her deepest book.'
Anyone attending the launch will be given a link on the night where they can buy a specially discounted copy of Jennifer's book directly from Pindrop Press with 20% off (£8 instead of £10).
The evening will also feature readings from fellow Cumbrian poets Mark Carson and Caroline Gilfillan. Mark Carson writes with both sides of his brain. One side is analytical and scholarly, knows too many words, and relies on a background in offshore engineering. The other is creative and irreverent, and makes up the words that he doesn’t know. He has published two pamphlets, both with Wayleave Press, 'Hove-to is a State of Mind' (2015) and 'The Hoopoe’s Eye' (2019).
Caroline Gilfillan has written poetry all her life, has published five collections, and her poems have appeared in many magazines and anthologies, most recently 'Bloody Amazing', a taboo-breaking anthology about periods and the menopause, and 'Reflected Light', a book of poems responding to other art forms. Her poetry collection 'Yes', published by the Hawthorn Press, won the award for the best poetry book in the East Anglian Book Awards. In 2019 she won the Yeovil Poetry Prize.
Jennifer will be introduced by her editor Sharon Black from Pindrop Press and the event will be hosted by Kim Moore. If anybody would like to buy Jennifer's book in advance, you can find it here http://www.pindroppress.com/
