Lawrencefield - A Blackdog Outdoors - Beginners Climbing Event
Date and time
Led by qualified Climbing Instructors, these events are perfect introduction to climbing in a safe environment.
About this event
Our aim, at Blackdog Outdoors, is to promote outdoor recreation as a means of improving mental health and wellbeing. Many of our events are introductory events aimed at:
- People new to the activity
- People that used to spend time in the outdoors but, for whatever reason, have lost the confidence to do so
- People that are looking to meet like-minded people so that they can plan their own adventures
We are experiencing a high demand for places on our events, and therefore ask that you consider limiting the number of events you attend per year.
If this is the case, please email admin@blackdogoutdoors.co.uk and we will add you to the waitlist. If there are spaces still available after sales close, we will offer you a place.
Event Description
Join us for a beginners outdoor rock climbing day in the Peak District.
These sessions are aimed at beginners and are perfect for first timers or progressing from indoor climbing to outdoor climbing. Our professional instructors will ensure you are fitted with a harness and helmet, before taking you through some basic rock-climbing tips and tricks before we get on the crag.
The session is delivered on “Top Ropes” so that you can remain safely secured to the crag throughout the day.
Led by qualified instructor Dan McKinlay, we will spend the day learning about and developing our climbing skills in amongst the millstones and birch trees of Lawrencefield.
All equipment will be provided, and the event will be supported by qualified instructors and Mental Health First Aiders. This is an ideal opportunity to explore the health benefits of rock climbing as well as learning new skills.
These events are aimed at all fitness levels and will be led by professional outdoor instructors with support from our team of qualified MHFA staff.
**Aimed specifically at those who otherwise might struggle to engage in these activities, our events are a great way for people who are struggling to get outdoors to connect with like-minded people. If you have previously attended several BDO climbing events before, please consider others before booking your space**
Why should we do Outdoor Activities?
The role of sport and recreation in improving mental health is now becoming increasingly clear. The effects of outdoor activities can include stress reduction, improved mood, improved self-esteem and improved health and general well-being. The real challenge lies in promoting the idea of “green exercise” to those that will benefit from it, providing opportunities for those people to take up outdoor activities, and to support and encourage them as they set out on their individual adventures. We have established Blackdog Outdoors to provide this service.
