LAYDEEZ REVIEWS EXTENSION : A total of 3 x 50 min sessions are now remaining from a choice of 3 reviewers
Rachael Ball, Kate Evans and Una
These extra sessions are now being offered to the wider community. Male or female cartoonists or artists with an interest in graphic novel storytelling. The cost of a review is at a heavily subsidised cost of £27 and this has been made possible by our Arts Council funding. These reviews must be booked and paid for in advance and bookings are non-refundable. In the case of signing up and then being shortlisted, the payment will be refunded.
FORMAT
The sessions will be 50 mins long and applicants must bring a print or copy of their work to be reviewed on the day and are asked to include a short synopsis. The review/ mentoring session will include a critical response to artworks and projects along with advice on a practical and artistic level. The sessions can also be opportunities to ask for professional development advice. The reviews will take the format of the first 15 mins for the reviewer to look through the work and the remaining 35 mins of feedback, discussion and mentoring.
Applicants can choose one session with a reviewer of their choice from the list below on a first come/ first served basis.
REVIEWERS
Rachael Ball is a cartoonist and workshops teacher.
Her graphic novel The Inflatable Woman (Bloomsbury) was a Guardian Best graphic novel 2015. Her GN Wolf is due out Sept 2018 (Self Made Hero.) She will be running a ‘Graphic novel your Life’ course at the HOI in August. She is also a coordinator for Laydeez do comics (London.)

Kate Evans is a cartoonist, artist and activist. Author of Red Rosa, and the award-winning graphic novel Threads from the Refugee Crisis. She has also written Funny Weather, a graphic guide to climate change, Copse, about environmental protest, The Food of Love, on breastfeeding and Bump, about pregnancy and birth.

Una is an artist/writer. She has published a novel, Becoming/Unbecoming (2015, Myriad Editions) and a short story, On Sanity: One Day In Two Lives (2016). Becoming/Unbecoming has been critically acclaimed, adopted onto curricula and widely translated. Una is currently working on a graphic commission for New Writing North and a graphic novel for Virago.
