About this event

This webinar brings together LCA practitioners and enthusiasts to explore the complexities of assessing emerging aviation technologies and fuels through Life Cycle Assessment. Assessment of future technologies is critical to informing policy for research and development investment, regulations related to low-carbon fuels, electricity demand and climate impact forecasts.

Featuring Stella Job, Owner & Sustainable Innovation Consultant at Grazebrook Innovation, the session presents a case study, Project Monet, which assessed early-stage designs for a fleet of two-seater training aircraft with a range of zero or low-carbon powertrains. With further insight from the FlyZero project on hydrogen-powered commercial aviation, it will focus on methodological challenges in evaluating future technologies.

Stella will address key regulatory science questions, highlighting the need for good practice and standards for LCA practice, and how LCA results can inform evidence-based policymaking and resulting regulations.

The discussion will extend to critical decarbonisation issues in hard-to-electrify transport sectors, including biofuel types and biomass competition, as well as perspectives on hydrogen sourcing beyond the typical green/blue categories. The webinar includes interactive breakouts to foster dialogue and shared learning.
