LCF After Dark: Past/Future Patterns

By London College of Fashion, UAL

Overview

Late opening of talks, showcases, workshops and performances responding to 20/20, a major project from UAL’s Decolonising Arts Institute.

Join us for LCF After Dark: Past/Future Patterns, a late opening of talks, showcases, workshops and performances responding to 20/20, a major project conceived by Professor susan pui san lok, Director of UAL’s Decolonising Arts Institute, with funding from Freelands Foundation, Arts Council England and UAL.

The evening will explore how practices of fashion, art and design can confront and reimagine colonial legacies. Through live talks, creative workshops and performances, we’ll consider the politics of archive collections, the impact of waste colonialism, and the possibilities of upcycling and pattern making as tools for resistance and repair.

Bringing together artists, students and researchers, this event invites audiences to engage with new approaches to decolonising fashion, art and collections to imagine more just and sustainable futures.

Collaborators include: Newham Libraries, The Space, Gayle Chong Kwan, Border Crossings, Upcycle 365, LCF Archives, Decolonising Fashion and Textiles Project, Sandra Titus and more.

Upcycle 365 Takeover

LCF PHD student Toyin Gbomedo has curated an interactive space on the Mezzanine floor offering visitors the chance to learn about waste colonialism and to take part in a series of mending and upcycling workshops. Materials will be provided and visitors are welcome to bring their own garments to try repair and upcycling techniques. Upcycle 365 is a campaign encouraging people to reclaim, rework, and reimagine their secondhand clothing and discarded garments for one year.

5:00 PM - 8:00 PM

Dressing the Silence

Join LCF alum Sandra Titus for a workshop exploring ways of looking at fashion as an emotional archive, and making with textiles as a process for exploring the unspoken and the forgotten. Through fabric, thread, embellishment, and reflection, participants are invited to create a symbolic piece of textile or any tangible form that represents a silence or a memory.
