Event Details

Dear members,

The next  LDB evening meeting will be on Weds 1st November 2017 from 7-9.30pm at the Clubroom, Park Crescent Conference Centre, 229 Great Portland Street, London W1W 5PN.

The topic will be 'Podiatry Access for Vulnerable Patient Groups' This will be presented by Alison Gardiner, Specialist Podiatrist for Homeless and Vulnerable People .This will start at 8pm.

This will cover relevant legislation, barriers to healthcare experienced by vulnerable groups and consequences for health outcomes/health inequalities, practical policies put in place by Central London Community Healthcare to tackle inequalities in foot health and access to podiatric care by vulnerable groups, case study of a vulnerable child.

Alison qualified as a podiatrist at The University of Westminster in 1991. Since then she has worked full time in the NHS, initially in City and Hackney as a general podiatrist and for the last 13 years with Central London Community Health Care (Westminster, Hammersmith & Fulham, Kensington & Chelsea and Barnet) as Specialist Podiatrist for Homeless and Vulnerable People. She is passionate about tackling health inequalities and has always enjoyed looking for innovative ways of providing podiatric care for groups of people who might otherwise miss out due to their challenging social situations or other factors.

She currently provides weekly NHS podiatry sessions for rough sleepers as part of an NHS Homeless Health Team in Central London, runs health promotion and foot screening sessions for learning disability, substance misuse/mental health support groups and hostel residents and once ran a session in a squatter’s café in a disused swimming pool! She was NHS podiatrist at Wormwood Scrubs prison for 2 years (…..eventually released for good behaviour) and is a visiting lecturer at The University of East London.

She coordinated the podiatry service for the homeless charity Crisis at Christmas for 3 years as a volunteer and has also volunteered with The Special Olympics (learning disabilities) and for the London Marathon.

When not wielding a scalpel she plays clarinet in several wind orchestras and enjoys birdwatching, cycling and making cakes.

Prior to Alison's talk Dermasciences will be giving a presentation on Medihoney and the TCC EZ Cast. This will start at 7.30pm

There will be refreshments available and copy of presentation and attendance certificate will be sent to attendees post-meeting.

Non-SCP members welcome to attend meeting subject to £10 admission fee
