Lead into Guiding
Fri, 21 Apr 2017, 19:30 – Sun, 23 Apr 2017, 12:00 BST
We are looking for groups of 3 or 4 young leaders from one unit area to come along and take part in training to be able to run a 4 night or 2 day project in your area to develop your leadership skills, and complete about half of your leadership qualification in the process! You need to be between the ages of 15-17 (if you sit just outside this age range and would like to take part, contact us). You also need an adult in your area who is willing to help support you, and attend your project nights. This could be run within an existing unit.
This project is fully funded by the Big Lotto Fund - Awards for All, and your team will be given a small budget each to develop your project.
Event hoodies will be provided for your team so that you are easily identifiable in your group of young members.
The weekend will be fun, and should equip you with lots of ideas to run a short guiding programme in your area.
As part of this training you will also complete Safe Space training.
The programme will give you space to develop your own leadership style and gain leadership experience in a practical, real life situation. Lead into guiding will also give you the tools to take your guiding journey further as a volunteer – creating opportunities for further training and social action in your local community.
Over the weekend you’ll work with young leaders to create a fun two-day/4 night programme for young girls. As well as leadership skills – such as team work and communication - you will receive training in youth development and safeguarding.
You will be given the opportunity to complete almost half of your Leadership Qualification in a supported environment amongst other Young Leaders your age.
Following the weekend training, your team will be given a budget of £150 to run a mini-guiding programme in your area at a time that suits you and your adult supporters. This can be run over 2 full days (over school holidays) or over 4 programme nights (i.e. on the night your area/unit normally meets).
The budget must be used on items which you will need to deliver the mini-programme, and receipts must be kept and submitted to Dunluce Guide House. The budget is per team, per area – so about 3 or 4 girls can work together in one area. It must be spent before the event starts, or the difference returned to DGH.
This programme has been made possible through funding from the Big Lottery Fund NI.
