Lead Yourself to Success - Wednesday 9 May

Why not take a little time out from growing your business in order to seek a way to grow it faster?

Register for a place at our half-day workshop and take time to explore, compare and contrast different approaches to leadership. Identify your personal leadership qualities and reflect on these in light of the workshop to consider how best you might lead your business to greater success.

We will use the extent of the Leeds Trinity University campus to immerse you in the workshop. Because our intention is to use any area of the campus we encourage you to dress informally and ensure your clothing is suitable for outdoor as well as indoor activity.

Although the workshop can be taken in isolation we will ensure that relevant links to other Ad:Venture activities are highlighted to you as we progress.

During the workshop, the following will be covered:

  • Concepts of leadership, leading and being led.

  • Creativity and adaptability as a tool for business ideas and development.

  • Reflective practice as a key tool for capturing learning for business success/personal development.

  • Narrative leadership – the art of storytelling your business to success.

  • Doing more than talking - walking the talk – decision making and action.

Ian McGregor Brown will facilitate the workshop, he has commercial experience from a number of years working in the retail sector where he worked on the shop-floor before progressing up the corporate ladder to the position of senior buyer. As such he has experience of managing and leading teams of varying sizes and doing so on-site and remotely.

Between his first and second career in Education, Ian studied at Huddersfield University and Bangor University completing a degree in Business Studies, a teaching qualification and an MA in Education. He supported his study by working in the catering sector managing large scale events.

Ian now has over twenty years’ experience working in educational settings, ranging from pure teaching roles in both Further and Higher education settings, through self-employed training consultancy to managing large partnerships of Universities. He returned to working part-time for one University, Leeds Trinity, in September 2017 to support the development of Work Based Learning programmes and to deliver on the MBA programme.
