Leadburn Community Woodland: Task to be Confirmed

By LCV Bookings

Overview

In the past we have worked on the large bog: removing saplings, heather or scrub, or in the woodland surrounds and ponds.

Leadburn Community Woodland, 13 miles south of Edinburgh, was recently purchased from the Forestry Commission by a small group of individuals known as the Friends of Leadburn Community Woodland. The group intend to replace the previous plantation of conifers with native trees such as silver birch, ash, oak and rowan, among others, and planting at the site has recently begun. The area is boggy in places, so wellies are recommended if you have them.

On this visit we may be removing saplings or scrub and heather from the bog area to help raise water levels in this important habitat. Or we may be performing other woodland or pond maintenace tasks on the site.

We encourage volunteers to use our minibus for transport. If you live near this task and wish to make your own way you must ring Debbie on 07510959496 to book a space and for joining instructions.

Please bring your lunch and wear appropriate footwear (boots or wellingtons) and waterproof outdoor clothing.

NEW VOLUNTEERS Please only book one task initially. If you do not attend without letting us know, we may cancel any additional task bookings. If you are under 18 you will need to be accompanied by a guardian. Please contact us to discuss arrangements for volunteering with us , or whether other organisations might be more appropriate.
