Red Letter Christians UK Launch Event:

'Working Together for Jesus and Justice'

A Breakfast Seminar for Leaders and Activists with Shane Claiborne

Are you seeking to follow Jesus? Do you have a passion for social justice? If so, this is an event for you!

We'll serve you a great continental breakfast at 09.00, with the seminar starting at 09.30. We'll have two hours of teaching, wisdom, sharing and encouragement for you, your church and your organisation – and time to chat afterwards.

We’ll discuss:

  • Red Letter Christian - what does it mean and am I one of them?

  • How can we live and work together for Jesus and Justice in London

Shane Claiborne is one of the founders of Red Letter Christians in the US and a prominent speaker, activist, and best-selling author. Shane worked with Mother Teresa in Calcutta, and founded The Simple Way in Philadelphia. We’re thrilled to have him support our UK launch.

Come and be inspired by Shane’s story; find out more about who and what God is bringing together in Newham and across London; and find out how to connect with others working for Jesus and justice in our communities.

Following our morning seminar, we'll invite those of you who wish to stroll with us to the Flanders Playing Field where we'll take part in a public action called 'Let's Beat Knives!' in our community garden:

12.30 – 14.00 approx ‘Let’s beat knives!’ public event

Members of the local community will gather to take a united stand against the culture of violence and epidemic of knife crime in our city.

Taking inspiration from the scripture Isaiah 2:4, we’ll ‘beat swords into ploughshares’, taking knives seized from the streets of Newham and melting them down to make new garden tools and a stunning new sculpture for display in the garden. Under the guidance of our expert metalsmith and two blacksmiths, local young people will be helping to create the new pieces.

The main part of the event will run until 13.30, and all are welcome to stay until around 14.30 to join us in making collaborative artwork, to chat and network, or to enjoy some drinks and food from our mobile vendors onsite.

Should you be part of this new movement in London? Come and find our more!

Please be aware there is limited parking at the venue and 'permit holder only' parking on the streets. Four hours of free parking is available nearby next to Central Park...Or use public transport: our nearest tube station is East Ham, around 20 minutes walk away, and there are many bus routes serving the nearby Barking Road and High Street South.
